Vail History Walking Tours - Tuesdays & Thursdays

Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays through September for our Walking Tours.

Tours will run through September. Meet at the Museum on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 11 am to start a one-hour history walk.

The program is $15 per person with proceeds benefitting the Museum. Help us keep admission FREE by supporting our programs or becoming a member.


Commemorative Flag Program

Remember & Honor

The Colorado Snowsports Museum is to launch our commemorative flag program this July 4th. In honor of your loved one, this is a meaningful way to pay tribute to 10th Mountain Division soldiers. The Museum will hang a 10th Mountain Division flag on the truss above the Museum's front door.  In the window to the right, we will tell the story of your loved one. The photo and story will be in the window along with the flag. Once flown, we will send you the flag that was hung, the framed tribute, and a certificate that states this flag was hung in honor of your loved one. We invite you to recognize their service and sacrifice while supporting a good cause. Proceeds from the program will go towards fulfilling the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame’s mission to celebrate Colorado snow sports by telling stories, including those of veterans, that educate and inspire others to seek adventure. Help us keep the 10th Mountain Division legacy alive.


“Letters Home” Digitial Deep Dive Exhibit

Colorado Snowsports Museum Premieres New 10th Mountain Division Exhibit: Letters Home


Years in the making, the Colorado Snowsports Museum is excited to premiere a new interactive, digital touchscreen display in our 10th Mountain Division exhibition: Letters Home. This revamped exhibit now includes access to our 10th Mountain Division archive, including digitized letters from soldiers, scrapbooks, photos, army communications, rosters, and more at the touch of a visitor's fingertips. Open NOW to the public!

This exhibit was made possible by our generous donors Kent Erickson and Barb Krichbaum and the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation.

“Skiing in Colorado” by the Colorado Snowsports Museum

New Colorado Ski History Book Told Through the Colorado Snowsports Museum’s Photo Archive

Created in collaboration with Arcadia Press, “Skiing in Colorado” will make its debut on October 30, 2023, telling the story of Colorado’s rich ski history accompanied by stunning black and white photographs from the Colorado Snowsports Museum, each photo sharing a unique perspective on this past.

New Acquisition on Exhibit - Mikaela Shiffrin’s 2023 World Cup Globe

Pro skier, Chris Anthony places in a display case a new edition to the exhibit, a 2022-23 World Cup globe trophy donated by Mikaela Shiffrin after the ski racer broke it while filming a car commercial in Andorra in March 2023.

"It is so awesome that Mikaela gifted the globe to the Snowsports museum," Mason said after the display case was closed up. "The back story of how it broke is so fun! As our hometown hero, it is so incredible that we have these precious artifacts of Mikaela's in the museum."

As with most of our artifacts, there’s quite a background story to this one!


New Jimmie Heuga Painting on Display

The Colorado Snowsports Museum is pleased to present a new work of art on display. This original artwork celebrates the achievements of Olympic bronze medalist Jimmie Heuga, with the source photograph captured in Grenoble, France in 1968. Jimmie was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 1987.

The artist behind this remarkable work is none other than Allison Lefcort, affectionately known as “the Princess of Pop” and widely acknowledged in the art world as the rightful heir to the Pop Art throne.

The creation of this commissioned portrait was graciously donated to The Jimmie Heuga Legacy Foundation for MS by Joanne Posner-Mayer, a dedicated friend and unwavering supporter of Jimmie Heuga. This piece is on loan to the CSM.


Colorado Snowsports Museum is Proud to Welcome a New Donation: An Atomic Ski Representing Mikaela Shiffrin’s Recent Record-Breaking History

After Mikaela Shiffrin’s “Mikaela87” event in Vail, Eileen Shiffrin, Mikaela’s mother, donated one of the Atomic skis presented to Mikaela at the event to the Colorado Snowsports Museum (CSM). At the event, snow sports athletes presented Mikaela with Atomic skis created for the event – symbolizing each record Mikaela broke in 2023. When each ski was passed on to Mikaela the record she broke was acknowledged. The ski that we received was given to Mikaela by Oksana Masters, representing the “Most Alpine Ski World Cup Wins by Any Skier in History (88).” Read more about this donation and Mikaela’s 87 event HERE.

“NBS Style Through the Decades”

A New Guest Curated Exhibit Celebrating the Fashion & History of the National Brotherhood of Skiers

Artist Lamont Joseph White was invited to help the Colorado Snowsports Museum revamp their 100 Years of Ski Fashion exhibition through the lens of the fashion and history of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS), as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary Black Ski Summit in Vail, Colorado this winter.

James Bond Snowboard — Now on Display!

The Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame is excited to announce that the Tom Sims snowboard ridden in the James Bond movie “A View to a Kill” is now back on display at the Museum. Generously on loan to us by Hilary Sims, through the Colorado Snowboard Archive, this piece of pop culture was for many - the first snowboard they ever saw.
